New Substation
New SubstationWorks on the new substation to service Ta’ Maggi Industrial Park are rapidly underway. The necessary trench excavation and the laying of the cables have been completed. The transformer is also on the premises and will be in place shortly.

The works on this substation started approximately six weeks ago, after all the necessary road works permits were obtained and the setting up and fixing in position of all safety signage and barriers as per the Traffic Management Scheme.

This project involves edge cutting of existing road surface with a rotary saw before the commencement of the trench excavation.

  • Excavation of trench by mechanical means and carting away material to an approved dumping site.
  • Laying of earth mat including surround with soil, laying of sand, cables and surrounding cables with sand.
  • Laying of warning slabs.
  • Laying and compacting of 130mm thick layer of selected material including warning tape.
  • Pouring and compaction of 8 to 10% cement stablised material .
  • Curing the backfill.
  • Resurfacing of trench and removal of all temporary signage, barriers and sweeping of site.
  • Fixing/changing in position any removed/damaged traffic signs or street furniture and painting of removed lines or road markings.

All the required quality assurance tests were performed along the process of work and all the material and workings were certified.

This substation is indispensable for the park to benefit from constant and reliable electricity supply.
